In this course participants will have the opportunity to focus on exploring the use of puppetry as a tool for enhancing educational experiences. This program will offer an enriching journey that transcends borders, opening doors to a world where puppetry becomes a powerful tool for learning, creativity, cross-cultural understanding and inclusion. The “Puppet Theater in Education” Erasmus program will encourage participants to explore the dynamic intersection of arts and education. Through hands-on workshops, collaborative projects, and engaging seminars, participants will delve into the world of puppetry, gaining insights into its historical significance, artistic techniques, and its potential as an educational medium.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Learn about the puppetry traditions of different cultures and incorporate these into the educational practice.
- Learn different forms of puppets (finger puppet, glove puppet, puppets from wire) that can easily be used by the teachers.
- Practice puppet –making sessions where the participants can learn how to create and use a puppet effectively in various educational settings.
- Develop cultural awareness that using puppetry in education establish a safe communication net through Playing.
- Explore and value new approaches to education that can be applied to classrooms with different abilities.
STANDARD DAILY PROGRAM:
Day 1:
Participants arrival
Networking activities
Cultural activities in the city
Day 2:
Introduction to puppetry
Reflection on puppetry as art expression
Identity and culture: models, different cultural traditions, individual reflection on puppetry
Present different points of view about using puppetry in education.
Present examples using puppetry in learning, in enrichment Intercultural sensitivity, conflict management and also in therapy or special education.
Day 3:
Puppet -Making
Organize puppet-making session create puppets with simple and cheap materials (newspaper, wire, fabrics)
Create a scene that can be used and transferred everywhere
Create easy symbols for our educational needs
Day 4:
Storytelling with puppets
Puppetry transcends language barriers.
Participants will be encouraged to develop their creative voices through puppetry, exploring themes, narratives, and artistic expressions that resonate with them.
Teamwork: every group will create and perform a mini puppet show based on classic stories, real-life narratives or in particular educational needs (history lessons, language learning etc).
Day 5:
Visiting local puppet organizations
Participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of the host country.
Cultural excursion, visits to local puppet organizations, and exposure to traditional performances will provide a holistic learning experience.
The training course will take place in Kalamata, Peloponnese region in the south of Greece for 3 Rounds:
1st Round: 4 to 9 March 2024
2nd Round: 9 to 14 September 2024
3rd Round: 4 to 9 November 2024
